Now displayed at the North West Museum of Road Transport, St. Helens, this is believed to be the last of it's type and was manufactured from components in the late 1960's. The machine was in use for 'about twenty years' before being retired to it's owners office cupboard along with machine 02 (an SMB Mk II). It shows signs of lack of use and having been neglected - paint and casing blistering. Otherwise it works fully. It used blank or tramline plain rolls during it's working life but latterly it's owners employed the 'anarchy' system of fare collection (an open box or bag...) Fortunately they knew their employees to be trustworthy.

Approximately, 800 'A' prefix machines remain unaccounted for - possibly exported to Eastern Germany, maybe Holland, also small numbers to UK independants.
