About Me

Over 40 years railway experience, mainly mechanical and electrical engineering, but during the 1970s I was also a volunteer booking clerk - Edmondson card - on a preserved railway and even at that time £1000 in a shift was not unusual in the summer.

I have a number of machines, most of which you can view in "Bill's Collection".   My first priority is that they should work properly and I prefer those having sufficient fare capacity whereby they could be put into immediate use.   Put simply, I am not interested in owning museum exhibits - the mechanical condition is of much greater importance.

I also collect bus/tram tickets from Bournemouth, and H&D in that area, and am looking for anyone who might be able to help with scans of early examples as I am working with another Transport Ticket Society member on documenting them.   This has been assisted by my having rescued the BCT Head Office ticket requisition book covering most of the 1920s.

I would also like to obtain any Bournemouth Ultimate and Setright Speed rolls (or part-rolls) plus any other machines to go with my ex-BCT 'Speed' No.169 which has 1p to 24p fare range.

About Me

I've been interested in buses since about 1952 and I was always fascinated by the ticket machines used by Southdown. I used to catch the Route 64 from Chichester, which was an early omo route and had recently received Leyland Tiger Cub/Duple Nudd vehicles, using the motorised Setright Speed. I was always desperate to see the controls of this machine.

I did own battered Setright Speed, TIM and Ultimate machines but I dumped them some years ago unfortunately. I don't know if old machines are still available .

I am retired and I'm also very interested in railways and aircraft of the 1940-1960 period
