These come up on eBay in generally bad state of repair. What made them work? Remember the one at Ruislip station: clerk put ticket in slot and it made a noise like an industrial press!
These types of date press were also used on the Clyde Steamers operated by the Caledonian Steam Packet Company (owned by BR)
Yes, this is indeed an Edmonson ticket dating press. A box of metalic type containing numerals and 3 character month stamps completes this equipment. Used on all main line railways including London Underground until the demise of the Edmonson ticket in favour of locally printed tickets such as APTIS tickets.
Isn't this a ticket 'dating press'? (Designed for Edmondson card tickets 30,5 x 57 x 0,85 mm.)
