The original version of the Wayfarer 3 was developed in early 1987 for New Jersey Transit, USA. 3,500 Wayfarer 3 machines were linked to Fareboxes and on-board displays. These units were installed in 1988. Note the illuminated membrane type keyboard, small driver module port (bottom left), and right hand ticket dispenser. The prototype driver module used wireless technologies to transfer power and data from the Wayfarer 3.
