The punch on the right has no serial number or case number ,How would the conductor make up a waybill ?,any ideas on the origins of this punch and why it has no visible serial numbers how would the "confetti counters" know what punch they were tallying up ?.
Pure speculation on my part but it may be that the punch without the serial / case number was a spare or works machine, and that a serial number would only be stamped on it if it was required to replace a defective service machine.
Incidentally, there are slight differences between LCC 'A' type punches and later LT versions; these look like LT ones - are they? Also, does anyone have any originals or copies of LT punch waybills?
Apart from deducting ticket numbers from the packs the conductor would need to be able to fill in the all important Punch number box on the upper left hand of the waybill,as this punch has no number a waybill could not be made up !.
