London Transport / L C C T Punch
The Cancellor and back plate have London Transport stamped on them. The punch has L C C T stamped underneath. Punch number is A488 but there is also a faint number which may have been the original London county council tramway Number.

The London A class punch, used mainly on the Tramways ,introduced 1919 to replace ageing Box Bell Punches that were reaching over 20 years of age by the time these punches came in to service, designed by GEORGE GIBSON who also invented the GIBSON A14 in later decades, over 8000 produced, many replaced by later Box Bell punches.

Ticket machine folk law has it that when Brixton Tram depot was converted to a bus garage ,hundreds of these A Class punches were mixed with concrete and then poured in the Tram inspection pits to fill them over, now very collectable and always make good money when they come up for sale or auction.
