I'd agree (and the box would match this) that this is a London Transport Ultimate, as used on "one man" buses (RF, SM, MB types, but not SMS or DMS) from the 1960s to mid 1970s.
Features of LT machines -
a) the end plate at the end nearest the fare stage wheel was cut down and does not have the bit to clip a conductor's ticket machine strap to
b) the double issue buttons are modified to be inoperative
c) the counter windows (other than the total recorder at the fare stage wheel end) were painted over - usually in black
d) a machine number (U xxx) was stamped - usually in white - on the top plate of the machine.
