About Me

I am a transport enthusiast living in Chester.  I run the Chester Buses Yahoo Group with my friend Nick Jones. Nick and I also recovered the remains of the last surviving Chester tramcar, number 4.  The bulkhead end is in the Wirral Transport museum while the remainder is in safe storage. It would be good to restore it, but it is too far gone, so we have to be content with preserving the parts we recovered.

I have a small fleet of 3 rideable 7¼" gauge miniature tramcars, one of which is presently being rebuilt and another under construction.  I operate these at Grosvenor Park Miniature Railway in Chester and occasionally other miniature railways in the area.

They are battery powered (24v) and very popular with young and old alike.  Based on roughly 1/3 size bodies, each can carry around 6 adults or 8 children.

The car being rebuilt is Chester 19 (next in sequence to the last tramcar to be operated by the Corporation).  When complete, it will as close as possible copy the design of car 4, which we recovered, using the same materials (ash, oak, birch, maple) and copying the interior mouldings and livery.  The other cars are 20, a Pfeifferbahn freelance single unit based on a modern Manchester Metrolink car and under construction is a replica of Chester 13, a 4 wheel Brush Demi-car.  I have plans to build a 4th car in the future, based on a Blackpool Boat.

I have several ticket machines.  A c1902 Williamson Ticket Punch ex York, an Almex A ex Tyne and Wear, a Setright Mk1 ex Parish's of Morda (near Oswestry) for use on licensed rail replacement bus services after Dr Beeching closed the Tanat Valley line, and a Mk2 ex Wilts and Dorset for power use.  I purchased the Setrights for use with the trams to replace the Almex, but on special occasions, I use the Williamson Punch with reproduction Chester Corporation tickets.
